May 1 Dublin Schools Event
Library, Conference and Expo Centre St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra

Our National Architects in Schools Initiative event Friday 1 May celebrated students from seven Dublin schools who presented their fantastic design ideas. The day was a huge success due to the great participation of all involved.

Seven Dublin schools took part: Larkin Community College, Belvedere College, St. Mary’s SS Glasnevin, Castleknock Community College, Donabate Community College, Coláiste Pobail Setanta and Oatlands College.

IAF Board Chair, Professor Kathleen James-Chakraborty launched the event and introduced Eamon McCarney, the architect of the new Library, Conference and Expo Centre in St Patrick’s College. The students were really impressed to meet the architect of the building who gave some great insight into the design process.

Students gave their presentations to an auditorium of over 135 people, going in detail into the design ideas behind their projects. Professor Daire Keogh, President of St Patricks College DCU, provided the concluding observations, emphasising the creative and innovative nature of the ideas presented by the students. After the presentations the students enjoyed looking at each others projects in the exhibition space.

Many thanks to all who participated at the event and a big congratulations to the students on their great work.

‘My favourite part was going outside and building the models.’
(Adam, Oatlands College)

‘I really liked the other schools ideas too, they were really original.’
(Student, St Mary’s SS)
